Qualifications of Physician Assistants
- Degree: Master’s degree.
- Education: Graduate from an academic program, as an Adult, Internal Medicine, or Family Nurse Practitioner, accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
- Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support (5.2.3): Certified in Adult, Internal Medicine, or Family Practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or the recognized national nursing certification organization for the specialty area of practice as appropriate
- Experience: Preference given to applicants with at least 12 months of Gastroenterology-specific experience.
- Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse Practitioner in one of the 50 states in the U.S. or the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands as required
- Possess and maintain a current Drug Enforcement Administration registration number certificate to prescribe medication
Job duties for Physician Assistants may include but are not limited to:
- Serve as a Specialty Care credentialed Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner providing primarily gastroenterology and hepatology medical services to patients ranging in age from 18 through geriatric. The Physician Assistance/Nurse Practitioner will serve in the Gastroenterology clinic, Mike O’Callaghan Military Medical Center, under the supervision of the Medical Director of Gastroenterology, Clinic Nurse Manager, and the Flight Commander.
- The contractor is required to abide by the Medical Staff Bylaws upon acceptance of privileges to practice.
- Provide a full range of direct patient care, outcome-based Physician Assistant/Nurse
- Practitioner services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF (e.g., provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute, and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated).
- Diagnose and treat patients with common acute conditions, chronic illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted protocols, clinical practice guidelines, and/or in consultation with a physician.
- Examine patients and perform initial work-up and assessment; determine the need for and order the according laboratory tests, radiology studies, and other diagnostic tests; interpret the total medical evidence, incorporating information into an accurate diagnosis or appraisal; institute proper treatment and patient care
