Registered Nurse – Neurology
Location: Mike O’Callaghan Military Medical Center (MOMMC) at Nellis AFB, NV

Education Requirements
- Degree: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Accreditation: Graduated from an institution accredited by one of the following:
- National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), or
- Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
Experience & Certifications
- One (1) year of outpatient clinical experience in neurology is preferred. Outpatient clinical experience in a related specialty will be considered. One (1) year of inpatient experience alone is not acceptable.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Active, unrestricted RN license in any U.S. state or territory
Key Responsibilities
- Manages patient care requirements within the unit as well as coordinating with ancillary departments and outside organizations to ensure the continuum of care.
- Is accountable for making patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and skill level of assigned personnel.
- Performs a full range of nursing procedures to include, but not limited to patient counseling and education, telephone consultations with patients, reviewing charts, intravenous fluid administration, oxygen administration, vital signs monitoring and recording, specimen collection, and other unit-specific procedures as prescribed by the provider.
- Participates in the orientation and training of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.
- Participates in peer review processes as directed.
- Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for adult and geriatric patients.
- Ability to synthesize data from a variety of sources and make appropriate clinical decisions.
- Coordinates patient care through a continuum and facilitates the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality and cost effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with standards of care, practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility. Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries.
- Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for patients. Assessment includes but is not limited to physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, language barriers, age specific, and discharge planning needs.
- Assesses patients, including the ability to assess/evaluate/triage telephonically.
- Ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations.
- Collaborate with other inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, pharmacy, radiology, and lab to plan, implement and evaluate care.
- Collects and assesses significant patient history information and performs all necessary patient teaching.
- Excellent oral communication skills for patient/family education. Prescribes and communicates treatment plans in accordance with established clinic protocols.
- Telephone and in-person assessment/evaluation includes the determination of optimal time and location for patient management (ER, clinic, homecare) and follow-up care as required.
- Effectively communicates and collaborates with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family, and to meet organizational mission and goals.
- Excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity, including telephone contacts.
- Performs telephone follow-up, as appropriate.
- Skilled in setting up, operating, and monitoring specialized medical equipment such as IV infusion pumps, oxygen analyzers, suction, vital signs monitoring devices, and other clinic specific equipment.
- Arranges for/performs/assists with procedures such as port access, IV access, phlebotomy, central line use and maintenance, and other clinic specific procedures, in accordance with established protocols.
- Ensure medication/supplies are replenished and stored within regulatory guidelines.
- Recognized adverse signs and symptoms and quickly respond to medical emergencies as required.
- Initiates CPR if required and assist with providing ACLS measures when necessary.
- Provides clinical oversite of all paraprofessionals involved in the provision of therapeutic treatments.
- Ensure proper documentation and coding of procedures and treatments
